About us

United Technologists Europe Limited (UTEL) was founded on 17 December 1993 by two design engineers Frank Kaufhold and Paul Grafton, with the aim of developing more cost effective and technically superior technology for the European Telecoms industry.

In the late 1990s, UTEL entered the Test Access Switch market, rapidly becoming the biggest supplier of DSL Test Access Switches in Europe. UTEL has now sold over 15 Million lines of DSL Test Access Switches world wide and has been chosen as sole supplier in global competition by some of Europe’s leading Telecommunication service providers.

UTEL now offers the world’s widest range of DSL Test Access Solutions for retrofit and new build exchange based service delivery, Local Loop Unbundling and FTTC and FTTB applications.

In more recent times UTEL has entered the Testhead and Automatic Distribution Frame markets where we expect to achieve similar success through technical innovation and keen pricing. UTEL is primarily a Research and Development company and is therefore in a position to rapidly develop new technology to provide optimal solutions to address customer problems.

Ethical Policies

The world is not going to become a better place unless people take a moral stand and do the right thing. UTEL has a strong ethical policy and will not do business with companies who operate in racist states that kill children and disrespect the basic human rights of their indigenous populations.

Environmental Policies

UTEL is a green company. We support energy efficiency, waste management and recycling. We believe in designing products to minimise environmental impact and to facilitate recycling. UTEL has development innovative packaging re-use schemes in our installation programmes which are not only environmentally friendly, but also save costs!

Manufacturing of our products is primarily subcontracted to our manufacturing partner, Hosiden Corporation of Japan who provide ISO 9001 quality controlled, environmentally friendly manufacturing facilities throughout their EU factories.
